BACK2AFRICA FESTIVAL 2019
The Back2Africa Festival Celebrates Black History Month the last week of February through Ghanaian Independence Day in the first week of March connecting African American and Ghanaian cultural art forms through live performances and an annual educational service project providing school supplies and resources for Ghanaian school children in the Akuapem Region. The Back2Africa Festival is a partnership between The Adinkra Group and The Ghana Tourism Authority. Centered around the unique African American culture of Washington, DC underscored by Go-Go music – BACK2Africa further connects the dots laid out on May 8, 2006 in the Historic Sister City Agreement between Washington, DC and the City of Accra, Ghana.
Our inaugural trip in 2018 took 75 people to Ghana featuring The Backyard Band for a three stop tour in Accra and Cape Coast where we filmed a documentary on Anwan Glover and the Backyard’s Band’s experience being the first Go-Go music band to tour Ghana and perform at the Cape Coast Castle Dungeon.
