BACK2AFRICA FESTIVAL 2019
The Back2Africa Festival is a partnership between The Adinkra Group and The Ghana Tourism Authority that celebrates Black History Month the last week of February through Ghanaian Independence Day in the first week of March with a focus on the arts, education and service. We connect African American and Ghanaian cultural art forms through live performances and educational service projects providing school supplies and resources for Ghanaian school children in the Akuapem Region.
A cornerstone of this journey and experience is the opportunity for all attendees to take their DNA test using the world’s largest database of African DNA lineages to determine their country and ethnic group of origin through our partnership with AfricanAncestry.com and participate in a group reveal during the journey.
This year we are pleased to partner with Jermaine Gibbs of OTB Photography, founder of Hope Missions out of Baltimore, MD to extend our service projects beyond the Akuapem Region into the Kumasi Region.
Our inaugural trip in 2018 took 75 people to Ghana and featured The Backyard Band for a three stop tour in Accra and Cape Coast where we filmed a documentary on Anwan Glover and the Backyard’s Band’s experience being the first Go-Go music band to tour Ghana and perform at the Cape Coast Castle Dungeon directed by Kevin Swain. Stay tuned for the release of this documentary late 2018.
